Mapping the heavens

Here’s a woman who gives new meaning to the phrase, “reaching for the stars”. A professor in the Departments of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University, Priyamvada Natarajan gives an illuminating talk in which she relates archaeological digs for artefacts here on earth to “cosmic digs” for dark matter and dark energy in space. She details the disruptive space discoveries which have surfaced over the years and describes how dark matter can act as a lens through which to understand more distant, unknown parts of the universe. This talk serves as a fitting introduction to her book, Mapping the Heavens: The Radical Scientific Ideas That Reveal the Cosmos, which is set to release in April 2016.
