Ere Gowda


Eregowda was born to a farming family in the Mandya District of Karnataka in 1981, and came to filmmaking only much later in life. His Curriculum Vitae includes jobs ranging from house servant, office boy, driver, security guard and gardener to filmmaker. 

Eregowda rose to fame with the film ‘Thithi’, directed by Raam Reddy - for which he is credited as the Script Writer, Second Unit Director, Line Producer and Casting Director. The film was shot in and around the village where Eregowda grew up in rural Karnataka, Nodekopallu, and features many of his relatives and friends, all of whom are from an agricultural background. 

‘Thithi’ went on to win 14 top awards in Film Festivals around the world, including the prestigious Swatch First Feature Award and the Golden Leopard for Best Feature at the Locarno International Film Festival 2015, and the National Award for Best Kannada Film in 2016. For his contribution to the film, Eregowda won the Asia New Talent Award 2016 at the Shanghai International Film Festival for ‘Best Screenplay’, as well as the Karnataka State Award for ‘Best Dialogue Writer’. 

‘Balekempa’ is Eregowda’s first fiction feature as Director and also written by him. The movie has won at NFDC Film Bazaar WIP Lan award in 2017, its world premier is at International Film Festival Rotterdam under the category Bright Future Competition.
